"Dr. Nan"
Dr. Nancy Larsen hails from Mendon, a small farming community in northern Utah. “Dr. Nan” grew up with a myriad of animals. She was always fascinated by cats in particular, and with that passion in June of 2004 she opened Dancing Cats Feline Health Center.
Dr. Larsen received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1993. She practices western medicine with some alternative options. Dr. Larsen became interested in energy alternatives in 1995 when she was introduced to Reiki. She became a Reiki Master Teacher under the auspice of Joy Hoban. In 1998 Dr. Larsen began looking for other options to treat patients whose conditions she felt were insufficiently managed by western medicine. As a result she enrolled in Colorado State University’s Acupuncture for Veterinarians course and received a certificate in 1998. She has attended various courses in homeopathy, herbs and nutrition at continuing education seminars.
As a safety precaution following surgery, Dr. Larsen or one of her staff gives unique care to their patient. Dr. Larsen or a staff member wraps the patient in a warm blanket to prevent hypothermia. They carefully monitor breathing and position of the head to prevent suffocation or aspiration should the cat vomit as it comes out of anesthesia. The cat is held until it can lift its head on its own and is stable. This extra touch is what makes Dr. Nan’s level of care second to none.
Dancing Cats Feline Health Center has been designed with the feline patient in mind. The clinic is dedicated to cats only and the reception area is calm and inviting. The exam rooms have been painted with soothing colors that cats can actually see. Dr. Nan prefers her clinic to offer 30 to 45 minute appointments for clients to give them the attention they deserve. Dr. Nan and staff enjoy educating clients in the care of their cat to make veterinary care a team effort.
